PASSIVE VOICE

A.    Passive Voice dalam Present Continuous Tense

Bentuk umum :

1.      Bentuk positif

S +  to be (is/am/are) + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Ahmad is writting a letter (active).

A letter is being witten by Ahmad (passive).

b.      We are dicussing the problem with the manager (active).

The problem is being discussed (by us) with the manager (passive).

c.       Melani is mopping the floor now (active)

The floor is being cleaned by Melani (passive)

2.      Bentuk negatif

S+  to be (is/am/are) + not + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Ahmad isn’t writting a letter (active)

A letter isn’t being written by Ahmad (passive)

b.      We aren’t discussing the problem with the manager (active)

The problem isn’t being discussed by us with the manager (passive)

c.       Melani isn’t mopping the floor now (active)

The floor isn’t being cleaned by Melani (passive)

3.      Bentuk introgatif

To be (is/am/are) + S + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Is Ahmad writting a letter ? (active)

Is a letter being written by Ahmad (passive)

b.      Is the problem discussing by us with the manager ? (active)

Is the problem being discussed by us with the manager ? (passive)

c.       Is Melani mopping the floor now ? (active)

Are  the floor being cleaned by Melani ? (passive)

B.     Passive Voice dalam Past Continuous Tense

Bentuk umum :

1.      Bentuk positif

S + to be (was/were) + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Yuda was reading a news (active)

Yuda was being read a news (passive)

b.      Inur was feeding the cat when i came in (active)

The cat was being fed by Inur when i came in (passive)

c.       He was eating three hamburgers at a time (active)

Three hamburgers were being eaten at a time by him (passive)

2.      Bentuk negatif

S + to be (was/were) + not + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Yuda was not reading a news. (active)

Yuda was not being read a news (passive)

b.      Inur was not feeding the cat when i came in (active)

The cat wasn’t being fed by Inur when i came in (passive)

c.       He was not eating three hamburgers at a time (active)

Three hamburgers were not being eaten at a time by him (passive)

3.      Bentuk introgatif

Was/were + S + being + V3

Examples :

a.       Was Yuda reading a news ? (active)

Was Yuda being read a news ? (passive)

b.      Was Inur feeding the cat when i came in ? (active)

Was Inur being fed the cat when i came in ? (passive)

c.       Was he eating three hamburgers at a time (active)

Was he being eaten three humbergers at a time ? (passive)
